Hi! I’m Dawn, and here’s more about us on board Narrowboat Kingfisher 🙂
I used to work for the prison service as an Administration Specialist. Though the job was constantly busy, varied and in a lot of ways rewarding, the concept of living on a narrowboat simply swept me away. Sadly, there was no practical way to continue that paper-based work whilst on a narrowboat, but I’m hopeful there will be other opportunities for me to seize in future. There has always been this niggle in the back of my mind. A craving for freedom to make something of life that is different. The conventional lifestyle, as fulfilling as it appeared to me was never somewhere I felt I belonged. I often struggled with the balance of work and home life, and found I masked a lot just to fit in. You might view me as socially awkward, or lacking in confidence, and you wouldn’t be wrong. But I feel hopeful that a narrowboat lifestyle will let me finally discover myself in a naturally steadier pace.
With me, is Rick. Somehow he knows me more than I do, and is such a comfort to know I am safe with him. I’d like to put on a few things about him, but know he is a private person. What I can say though, is he isn’t afraid to try something new and get his hands dirty in the process.
Onto Narrowboat Kingfisher! She’s a 62 foot semi-traditional narrowboat with pretty much all the basic components needed for living on her all year round. Though there are few cosmetic adjustments needed, she works, which is all we ask for.
